Cape Town Psychologist

Understanding the patterns that once helped you cope  and learning how to change them.

Why Therapy with me?

People often come to therapy when they’ve learned how to cope (sometimes very well), yet still feel tired, stuck, or quietly unhappy beneath the surface. You may understand yourself intellectually, but notice familiar patterns repeating in relationships, work, or how you treat yourself, while your own needs have been pushed aside.

In therapy with me, we work carefully and compassionately with these long-standing patterns, focusing on where they developed, how they continue to shape your life, and where you may have become lost along the way. My approach is grounded in schema therapy, which goes beyond insight alone to support meaningful and lasting change.

What is Schema Therapy?

Schema Therapy helps make sense of why certain emotional patterns keep repeating, even when you understand yourself well and want things to change. Many of these patterns developed early in life as ways of coping with relationships, expectations, or emotional needs that weren’t fully met at the time. Although they once helped you get through, they can later show up as self-criticism, people-pleasing, emotional shutdown, anxiety, or feeling stuck in the same cycles.

In therapy, we gently explore these patterns and the different “parts” of you that show up in difficult moments, with curiosity rather than blame. Change happens not just through insight, but through emotional experiences that help you feel safer, more grounded, and more able to respond differently. The aim is to strengthen your healthy adult side, reduce the pull of old patterns, and help you live with more choice, self-compassion, and emotional freedom.
